電話の相手は少女の兄妹を名乗る若者でした。

少女のお兄さんは受話器の向こう側で一気に捲し立てた。私は一瞬わが耳を疑い秘書の顔を仰いだ。秘書が僅かに首を振った。

私は長谷氏との関わりを簡単に説明し、少女に話した内容を正直に伝えた。若者は少し冷静さを取り戻したらしく、長谷氏と連絡が取れないと呟いた。
