美意識は役立たない / The sense of beauty is useless
８４〕日本は敗戦から現在に至るまで、東京裁判・日本国憲法・支那や朝鮮による種々の捏造問題など、あらゆる事に我々は戦争に負けたのだから仕方がないと、大和民族の潔さと美意識から耐えに堪えて来ました。
否、今なおその美学に縋り付いて、何処かで自分を誤魔化しているのではないだろうか！？

然し、米国のマッカーサー元帥との交渉役であった外務大臣・吉田茂公ですら、憲法と教育は日本人の手で作り上げると言い切れなかった。
あれ程の愛国心旺盛な政治家が言えなかったのである。
８６〕その理由は、時の権力者たちが無条件降伏を早々と決定してしまったからである。
同じ敗戦国のドイツと日本を比較し当時の ＮＹ タイムス紙の社説に、ドイツは敗戦したとは言え誇り高き優秀な民族である。
我が国は如何なる努力も惜しまず、ドイツの復興を助けなければいけない旨を掲載した。
８７〕同列の紙面へ引っ繰り返った大ナマズが口を開いている構図に、米兵がナマズの口から牙を抜く漫画が掲載されていた。
そのコメントには、東洋の化け物は降参したが未だに息をしている。生涯油断なく徹底的に叩く必要があると書かれていたそうです。この意味合いを勉強する必要がある。
８８〕マッカーサー元帥は戦う男として日本軍の美意識を理解し、トルーマン大統領は自国の損得の上に立って日本人の美学が脅威だったのであろう。
「 日本には石油がない、錫がない、綿もゴムもない。その供給を全て絶たれたら、モナコの様な小国でも戦争を決断するだろう。」
これはマッカーサー元帥が帰国に際して述べたお言葉です。
